A living intelligence tracker for AI data center development across Texas.

The hub compiles AI-relevant data center projects from public reporting — frontier campuses, hyperscaler builds, metro colocation expansions, powered-land programs, and bitcoin-to-AI conversions. Every project carries disclosed-vs-estimated power, cost, and land figures, a per-record confidence level, live risk flags, and a sourced intelligence timeline.

Methodology

Each update run logs new developments as dated events first, then updates project state and refreshes review stamps. A strict validation gate (schema + cross-record integrity) runs before any data reaches the database, so figures stay internally consistent and every claim keeps its sources.

How it's built

Astro on Cloudflare Workers with a D1 (SQLite) edge database via Drizzle, a Zod validation gate, and a vanilla-JS single-page front end. Charts use Chart.js, the site map uses Leaflet, and the relationship graph uses D3.

Comprehensive Survey of Data Center and Dedicated Power Generation Infrastructure in Haskell County, Texas
Google's three-campus 'power-first' build-out, a nuclear microreactor park, and the CREZ transmission hub behind them

Haskell County's legacy as a CREZ transmission junction — multiple 345kV lines converging on some of the continent's cheapest wind and solar — has made it a primary node of Google's $40B Texas program. Three Homebound/Ascendant special-purpose entities are building the Thelma, Journey, and Ranger campuses (Thelma and Journey now under active construction, paired with Alphabet's newly-acquired Intersect Power 640 MW/1.3 GWh Quantum solar-and-battery park); a separate, unrelated Last Energy nuclear microreactor park proposes 600 MW of behind-the-meter baseload for regional data centers. A thinly-sourced CTS Lonestar project rounds out the county's pipeline but lacks enough disclosed detail to track as a full record.

A CREZ transmission hub becomes a Google county

Haskell County's rise from quiet agricultural county to hyperscale AI hub rests on infrastructure laid down over a decade ago: the Competitive Renewable Energy Zones (CREZ) transmission build-out, completed in 2013, left the county at a junction of multiple high-voltage 345kV lines with some of North America's cheapest wind and solar resources. A long run of utility-scale wind, solar, and battery-storage tax abatements (Horse Creek Wind, Azure Sky, Inertia Wind, King Creek Wind, Quantum BESS — May 2015 through Nov 2024) built the generation base that Google's 'power-first' co-location model now taps directly. Alphabet's Nov 14, 2025 announcement of a historic $40B statewide investment named two of the county's three Google campuses; the third (Ranger) followed with its own tax abatement in April 2026. This report identifies five distinct digital-infrastructure/power-generation assets in the county; four are converted into tracker projects here (Thelma, Journey, Ranger, Last Energy), and a fifth (CTS Lonestar) is held as report-only context pending firmer disclosure.
