Austin council to vote on banning hyperscale data centers inside city limits

City staff have recommended a resolution that would bar hyperscale and wholesale data centers, meaning facilities running from tens to hundreds of megawatts on hundreds of acres, from the City of Austin altogether, and impose siting, size, design and water and power usage requirements on the smaller "edge" facilities that would still be allowed.
