PUCT and ERCOT ask lawmakers for direct emergency-communication authority and a statewide large-load registry, a recommendation, not a rule

PUCT Chairman Thomas Gleeson told reporters the commission and ERCOT believe additional statutory authority is needed to oversee the state's rapidly growing large-load sector: authority for ERCOT to communicate directly with data centers during emergency conditions and request load reduction (today ERCOT generally routes emergency requests through the serving utility), and mandatory registration for data centers and other large electricity users to give regulators better information on ownership, site status and development maturity.
