San Marcos council votes down rezoning for a $1.5B, 200-acre data center

In a pre-dawn 5 to 2 vote, the San Marcos City Council denied the land-use change needed for a ~200-acre, $1.5 billion data center on a parcel southwest of downtown, a proposal from Armbrust & Brown for landowner Highlander SM One LLC that pitched a closed-loop cooling system at up to 75,000 gallons/day (over 25 million gallons a year).
